Setting up a group

When I chose to set up crochet & craft corner back in December 2018 I didn’t think it would take off like it would.

We have 5 admin which now have the perfect combination of working has a team, and since the 4th December 2018 we have just over 2,760 members in total, which is absolutely amazing in 5 months.

Not many of members know the full reasoning as to why the group was set up or who was the inspiration behind it all.

Back in December 2017 my grandmother sadly passed away after being ill for some time, before she passed away though I always liked to make my grandmother crochet items.

I always promised to make her a virus shawl for her shoulders as my nan was a very cold lady in later years, each time I would visit she would ask me ” how is my shawl coming on darling” my reply “it’s getting there nanna”.

To be honest it wasn’t I lied has I hadn’t mastered the virus shawl stitch yet, after many attempts I finally mastered it and surprised my nanna with it in her favourite shade of blue.

I made the size just perfect as well not to big or not to small she loved it, my nan’s face lit up. When ever some one came up to see her, she showed off her new shawl like it was her birthday.

My grandmother has always been my main inspiration for crocheting in the colours she would wear in clothing or her big personality to her scouse accent. To things she would have round the house including the continuous changing of cigarettes that would occur on a regular basis, you never knew which brand you were getting each week when you took her shopping.

The only one thing you could rely on was that she loved her Yorkshire tea bags to the point if you ever got any different ones she tell you off.

My grandmother always wanted to know what I was making next and told me what she thought of each colour yarn I was with, if they went together and if she did not like a particular colour it would have to be changed straight away to a colour she like and worked well.

I had been thinking of setting up a crochet group for a while to help those who like my self are beginners (I still class my self as a beginner after 22 years of crocheting) to pass on my knowledge of what I know about the craft. I never got round to doing as unfortunately my grandmother passed away in December 2017 in between Christmas and new year.

Has my grandmother never got to see in the New Year, my grieving process still continues to this day as I have lost my partner in crime as my nan was a little minx who always was up to mischief regardless of just turning 87 when she passed away.

Has the months went by I got thinking more about crocheting as I lost interest after my nan dying, I thought to my self I need to start back up.

Then one day back in November – December I got talking to a my oldest and longest friend that I hadn’t spoke to in 22 years it was like fate had brought us back together. This was through a group that we were both members off and she was a admin as well.

We got talking when suddenly I set up crochet & craft corner in memory of nan, when I asked my friend to become a Admin on my group she said yes, which in turn got us both kicked off and removed from 2 groups all because I set my own group up in memory of nan.

The name of group at the time did sound similar to one group but I changed the name like I was asked. Then the next thing I know I was accused of stealing a photo which you can get off a well known search engine which is not copyrighted by the way.

I was contacted by this groups admin and was verbally attacked and abused to the point it had me upset.

All I chose to do was set up a group in memory of late grandmother which I made the two groups aware of and got thrown back in face.

But 5 months I am pleased to say I have a wonderful admin and fantastic members now that we are finally up and running.

We will be officially 6 months old on the 4th December 2019 which just over 2,760 members in this short space of time.

Yes I may have started off on the wrong foot but it goes to show with the right determination and will anything is possible.

Especially if you have your grandmother has inspiration & guardian angel.

Regards

Alison
